Narrow closet storage solutions

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

At New Concept Design Custom Closets & Storage Solutions, we excel at designing custom closets and storage solutions for every shape and size. One of the most challenging type of closets are narrow closets and below are a few of our best tips.

If your closet is on the narrower side, you can still make it work for you by adding a few strategic storage solutions. For example, installing a mirror on the inside of the door can give you a full-length view of your outfits, making it easier to plan what you're going to wear.

Bins or baskets:

Another great way to make the most of a narrow walk in closet is to use bins or baskets to keep things organized. This way you can take advantage of all available space, including any nooks and crannies. Rehousing shoes in a different closet or in hall coat closets can also free up valuable space in your bedroom closet. You can maximize the storage space in your narrow closet and keep your belongings organized.

Sliding belt rack:

Consider installing a sliding belt rack. This handy solution can be installed on the back of your closet door, making it easy to keep all your favorite accessories organized in one place.

Hanging organizer:

Another great option for storing smaller items and narrow items is a hanging organizer with pockets. These organizers are typically made of canvas or another lightweight fabric and can be hung over the door or on a rod inside the closet. The pockets are perfect for holding belts, scarves, ties, and other slim items.

Shoes:

If you have a lot of shoes, keeping them stored in your bedroom closet can quickly eat up valuable space. Instead, try storing them in a hall closet or coat closet if you have one. This will free up valuable space in your bedroom closet.

Hooks:

If you need extra hanging space but don't want to install another rod, consider adding hooks to the back of your closet door. This is a great way to hang purses, belts, scarves, hats, and other accessories. And since the hooks are behind the door, they'll be out of sight when not in use.

Floating shelves:

If you're short on shelf space, consider installing floating shelves in your narrow closet. These shelves are easy to install and provide a great place to store folded clothes, shoes, and other items. Just be sure to use heavy-duty shelves that can support the weight of your belongings.

Adjustable Shelves:

If you have a lot of stuff, chances are good that you need more shelf space than your narrow closet can provide. Luckily, there's an easy solution: adjustable shelves. These shelves can be raised or lowered to accommodate items of different sizes. And they're perfect for storing everything from folded clothes to shoes.

No matter how small your closet is, there are plenty of storage solutions that can help you make the most of the space. With a bit of creativity and some strategic planning, you can turn even the narrowest closet into a functional and stylish storage space.
